Good value for the price with simple assembly
I'm greatly satisfied with this gun cabinet. I owe 2 rifles, and 4 handguns which are easily accommodated, with no frills, in this box. Assembly of this cabinet, if you read the instructions, is very straightforward, to a great degree because most of the assembly parts are the same. That is, nylon locking nuts, machine screws, and carriage bolts hold together 99% of this thing and the instructions are very clear regarding what goes where. I liked the option of being able to mount the door to open either to the left or the right (depending on where the user wants to install this box) The only snafu I ran into was with one of the door hinges (that is attached using 8 machine screws, and 8 locking nuts). In a few of the holes, the door holes did not precisely line up with the holes in the cabinet. To try and get past that, I did have to use a nail punch to pop a new hole location. Overall, there is only one screw that is not 100% snug, but it shouldn't affect the security of this box. To secure the cabinet in place, I drilled 4 inch holes through concrete (and also drilled a single hole through a wall stud, due to not having 2 wall studs available to me). For that stud, I attached the cabinet using a single supplied lag bolt and washer. For the floor, instead of using the small lag bolts included, I drilled two 3/8" holes into the concrete floor. Of course, this can only be done with a hammer drill. Also, the holes in the base of the cabinet are smaller than 3/8", so I re-drilled those to a larger size, then hammered (2) Tapcon 3/8" anchors through the cabinet's base, then into the drilled floor, before wrenching them tight. If anyone else is doing something similar, I recommend using only 2" or 2 1/2" anchors (4", which I used, works, but are really too long for the job). Still, great product, with easy install, and it seems to be stable enough for now being a full-blown gun safe.MrWomey
Good for the money
Perfect size cabinet for my current needs. It is smaller than my dresser so it is hidden well from the view at the doorway. I was under the impression that the one shelf it came with was a full shelf. It is only a half shelf. Probably my oversight. It also comes with a 4 slot gun rest for the long guns. That gun rest is just foam rubber that would probably not hold up for the "long haul". It also does not come with gun rest extensions for those people that have rifles with scopes on them. It is good for the 90 or so bucks I paid for it. My neighbor bought the bigger cabinet and it turned out he didn't need all of his pieces so I got a better gun rest from him and installed it. It is a secure cabinet but remember it is not a gun safe. For those "serious" gun collectors I would probably go for something a little "beefier". Excellent starter cabinet and it does leave some room for the growth of your gun collection / home defenses. All in all a good product for the price. Transaction and shipping were aces. Good job as usual Walmart.Jham206
Safe from the kids
My unassembled Stack-On 8 Gun security cabinet arrived in pristine condition, and assembled with no problems (I'm the guy that follows the directions) in about one relaxing hour. I am storing an air rifle, a shotgun, a high-powered rifle, and a holstered handgun in it and for that it is the right size--I'm glad I didn't get a 5-gun cabinet. The scoped rifle requires at least two spots if not three. None of my firearms are irreplaceable so I don't feel I require a safe. My only disappointment is in the depth of the shelf. 50-round ammo boxes hang off the edge, and there is no chance I will place my small-framed revolver on it.
Another project is to secure the cabinet to the wall and floor. I'd feel better if the studs were standard distance apart (they aren't) so that is a bummer but not the cabinet's fault. I may drill a new hole to match the studs. Overall impression--I am pleased with this purchase; my firearms are safe from the kids and the cabinet would present an obstacle in the event of a smash-and-grab home invasion.tradraven
