Great Safe for the Money
I did a decent amount of research before settling on this safe, for the price (and free shipping) it cannot be beat. I Picked up at Walmart undamaged, safe is in perfect shape. Combination and handle are sturdy and move nice and smooth. Carpet job could be better overall but its not terrible either. My shelves don't fit wall to wall, they are short just about 3/8th's of an inch total, not a big deal but they could have cut them a little bigger and they still would have fit fine.
My AR is going to be too short to utilize the rack mounts, I knew it was going to be the case thanks to another product review so I'm just going to cut a piece of wood and put it in the bottom lifting it up a few inches curing that problem. Its going to hold my pistols, rifles, ammo and my important family documentation with ease.
I agree with some others about the "22 gun safe" you would have to cram in 22 rifles. I cant imagine me ever owning more then 4-5 rifles and they should fit fine on the one side.
I opted to go with the combination over the digital (that as of writing this is sold out on Walmart.com), too many stories online and youtube videos from locksmiths about failed electronics, its a case of not if but when its going to fail so while I wanted the convenience of digital I opted for the reliability of the combination.
Overall I am very happy with the purchase, again, for the price your getting a good safe and for me its going to do what I need it to do.
Attached is a picture of the safe open, not in its final resting spot and a picture of total gap space for the shelves.
Even though I gave it a 5 overall I would really give it a 4.5 overall if I could. Missed opportunity with the carpet and the shelves being just a little short but meets my expectations everywhere else.Eclipso
Poor quality control. When I got safe home and removed it from the cardboard box, it was damaged in two places. There were large cracks in the paint surrounding the door (can't tell if metal is damaged or just paint). The upper rear corner of the safe was crushed as though the safe had been dropped on it. The paint on that corner was gone and the metal was crumpled to the point that the metal had come apart and there was a hole in it. There was no evidence of damage to the shipping box. I can only assume that the damage happened at the factory, but they packaged and shipped it anyway. Not a bad size for the money, but still disappointing to spend over $400 total and receive a damaged item! Will not order from Walmart.com again.SHLB1
Stack-On 22 Black safe
GOOD NEWS FIRST!!! Received my safe on 14 August 2014. Seven days before the due date. Safe package wasn't damaged any! I got the cardboard box off of the safe and no visible damage to the safe was noted. NOTE: If you want to get your safe to it's finial location, you'll need HELP! My dolly hauler had small wheels and I wasn't able to pull the safe and all it's 247 pounds up 7 steps into my house. My dolly also weighted in around 70-100 pounds. One of my friends came over and helped me. He pulled and I pushed the monster up the 7 steps. Then we just rolled it to where I was going to lock it down. I put my safe into one of my closets. I put a piece of (very thick) plywood under the safe. The safe lag bolts were too long and I got new and shorter ones. I installed the shorter lag bolts into the plywood below the safe. Now if a bad person tries to take my safe, it won't fit through the closet door. Yes, I know, if the bad person had a saw to cut around my plywood base, the bad person would have to cut through the floor too, if I'd not used the plywood. Then, one bad person would have to be at least five bad people to carry this monster!! Please read the instructions about the safe combination! I was able to get into my safe in a matter of minutes. BAD NEWS!!! Opening the safe door for the first time I noticed the lower left corner of the door was rubbing on the safe door frame. I emailed "Stack-On", I'm waiting on a reply. Now, I can go off with my woman for a day, two or three and not have to worry about my valuables! About six months ago I started looking at guns safes. I first looked at the "Stack-On 22" green safe, then I seen the black one was $100 dollars cheaper with the same features except for the color. I'd recommend this safe to anyone!!Snakebite62
Stack On You
It’s a nice safe. It’s heavy 247lbs. The interior is carpeted . It feels like felt material though they could of used other thicker material but that’s their call. Shipping took about a week which was alright. The box looked like it went through some beating along the way. There were some openings where you can see the styrofoam. When I opened it up, there were some dings on one top corner and paint on safe was scratched off. This can be fixed with some light touch up with black paint. I’m not gonna return it for that reason. I dialed up the 3 number combination and it works fine. I haven’t put my firearms in it yet but I know this safe will do fine for me. It’s not fireproof. The price I paid was $409 total. I couldn’t find a price anywhere on line with this particular item. Other sites had it for over $475 plus and additional on shipping. So overall, I think this was a pretty good deal. With the exception of the dings on the safe, folks handling the package enroute to destination, they should try to do a better job on handling these packages or the folks who pack these items, should use a more heavy duty box for packaging these heavy items. There you go. I hope these information will give you an idea about purchasing this safe. Farewell Stack On Shoppers.MRR
Meets expectations for moderately priced safe
This is a good safe. Plenty of storage if you don't want to store more than 10 rifles and 15M rounds of ammo.GPFACTOR
